In this part 5, we are going to use vCenter web client to create the new VM. I am going to install new VM using Xubuntu OS and you can use your own wished OS. Enjoy!
1. Navigate to Home button and then choose Hosts and Clusters in the drop-down menu
2. Click VMs tab => Virtual Machines => New Virtual Machine
3. In the Select a creation type page, choose Create a new virtual machine and then click Next
4. Enter a name for the virtual machine and select the location for the virtual machine. In this case, if you have more than one location/datacenter, choose the one you wish to deploy this new VM to and click Next.
5.Select the compute resource (ESXi host) you want to deploy this VM to, this following example I am choosing to install the VM to esxi-01 and click Next
6. Now select the storage you want to store the VM, if you have more than one. Since I have only one local Datastore, I will place this new VM in to esxi-01_Datastore.
7. Now you can select the compatibility version of ESXi which this new VM can support. There are various versions of ESXi which it can support but I am going to choose the default one which is ESXi 6.5 and later then click Next
8. Select the guest OS you wish to install. I am going to install Xubuntu 32 bit, so I will select Linux as the Guest OS Family and Ubuntu Linux (32-bit) as the Guest OS version because the Xubuntu is the development of Ubuntu
9. Now you can customize the hardware of your VM, the amount of CUP, RAM, and Disk space then click Next
10. Another important thing is to connect the ISO (Xubuntu installation media) to install VM from ISO by selecting Datastore ISO File
11. Browse to the ISO file you uploaded in Part 4, in the local Datastore and click OK
12. Make sure that the CD/DVD Drive is checked to be connected when turn on the VM and click Next
13. In the summary page, review your settings and click Finish.
14. Now you can see new VM is created. To start Xubuntu installation, turn on the VM by right-click on the VM (or you can click the button in the circle) => choose Power option => choose Power On
15. To see the progress of the installation, we can open the a virtual machine console in a separate window by clicking the circle button.
16. Choose Web Console => Continue
17. Here the Xubuntu installation page is booted up. Follow the installation wizard until you finish.
18. Finally, we have installed the new Xubuntu virtual machine. Good job!
After the VM has been installed, we need to do the important post-installation is to install its VMware Tools and this will be covered in the next Part 6: Installing VMware Tools.
